I’m going to post this again. I’d like you all to let me know what you’d like to see here. Do you have a Work-In-Progress (WIP) with a character who’s depressed and you’d like more information about what that’s like for the character? Do you have a character taking medications and wonder about the side-effects? (Remember, I’m not a psychiatrist.) Is your villain psychotic, psychopathic or borderline but you don’t know what those are? Do you want to see more of my own writing (Gasp!)?
At this point, I’m most interested in possibly reading about anxiety and alcoholism.

I’ll do my best to get something out on both of those topics. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would like to see more clarification on what might drive someone with mental illness to criminal behavior, be it influenced by their illness or external factors, such as upbringing. Also, there is a loh of misunderstanding that most criminals can’t possibly be mentally ill, that they’re just ‘assholes.’ Perhaps defining ‘perfect mental health,’ if it even exists, might shed light on this. Maybe talking more about how having mental illness rarely diminishes ones capacity for reasoning, and how hard it is to apply NGRI in the court room, and instinces where the M’Naughton rule was used unsuccessfully, and also successfully. Being mentally ill does not always mean one is dangerous, but also that does not mean a criminal who suffers a mental illness is a criminal because of said illness. Mental illness and criminal behavior are not always mutually inclusive.

All good points. I do have a post on insanity, but perhaps I need to talk more about it. I think I also need to find a way to list my posts better. As far as what might drive someone to criminal behavior, there’s all sorts of speculation on that but little that I’ve seen in the way of clear, scientific answers. My guess is that it’s a combination of nature and nurture. I’ll have to think more about this and then see if I can develop a post. Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
